This evening we will wrap up our study of Jude. We will be back in the Book of Enoch tonight as well. Jude 12-13 has these wonderful allusions comparing false teachers to natural phenomena – waterless clouds, fruitless trees, wild seas, and wandering stars. Jude obtains these allusions from Enoch 2:1-5:4, where the writer proclaims the character of the righteous and the natural order. Jude is telling us that these false teachers contradict the righteous and the natural order proclaimed in Enoch. Verses 14-15 also contain Jude’s only direct quotation from any source. This quote is from Enoch 1:9 where the book pronounces judgment upon the wicked, sinful, and ungodly. Jude uses this quote to pronounce his own judgment upon the false teachers.

Then shall wisdom be given to the elect, all of whom shall live, and not again transgress by impiety or pride; but shall humble themselves, possessing prudence, and shall not repeat transgression. They shall not be condemned the whole period of their lives, not die in torment and indignation; but the sum of their days shall be completed, and they shall grow old in peace; while the years of their happiness shall be multiplied with joy, and with peace, forever, the whole duration of their existence.
Enoch 5:11-12
