Fr. Gabriel was back with us this week and went back over Hebrews 4-6. Next week, he will be teaching on Hebrews 5-7. The main character in this section is Melchizedek of (Jeru)Salem –which means the King of Righteousness and Peace. Melchizedek appears with Abraham in Genesis 14:17-24 where he serves Abraham bread and wine and gives him a blessing. His name reappears in Psalm 110 and later in the Dead Sea Scroll called “The Coming of Melchizedek”. One of our first small group discussion topics was Abraham, and I have attached the outline of our discussion of Melchizedek for your review.
Dinner is at 6. Menu is potato casserole. Discussion about 6:45. Hope to see you here.
The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand, *
Psalm 110
until I make your enemies your footstool.”
The Lord will send the scepter of your power out of Zion, *
saying, “Rule over your enemies round about you.
Princely state has been yours from the day of your birth; *
in the beauty of holiness have I begotten you,
like dew from the womb of the morning.
The Lord has sworn and he will not recant: *
“You are a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.”
The Lord who is at your right hand
will smite kings in the day of his wrath; *
he will rule over the nations.
He will heap high the corpses; *
he will smash heads over the wide earth.
He will drink from the brook beside the road; *
therefore he will lift high his head.
