This coming Tuesday, we will be wrapping up our study of 2 Corinthians! We’ll be looking at chapters 12 and 13, but we will also be doing a sort of review of everything that Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians in order to bring together our understanding of the complex relationship that Paul had with the Corinthian church.
We’ll keep exploring issues of apostolic authority and the ways in which Paul made an appeal for his own apostolic authority to the Corinthian church. Paul’s admission of weakness ultimately ends up being his greatest argument for authority, so we will look into what “power is made perfect in weakness” might mean for us as followers of Christ today.
We’ll also look a little more deeply into Paul’s ever-important question, “Do you not realize that Christ is in you?” We’ve talked about this topic before, but it’s well worth revisiting as we continue to discover what our identity as Christians means in our daily lives.
Finally, we will take a look at Paul’s farewell. Such last thoughts are often looked over as merely conventional endings to letters, but there may be something to glean from what Paul encourages the Corinthian church to do in his farewell.
On a personal note, it will be my last Tuesday with you all, at least for the summer. I will be greatly looking forward to seeing everyone, even though it will be a bittersweet gathering. To say the least, it has been an exceptionally enjoyable summer, and you all have been a large part of what has made my summer experience in Myrtle Beach a true blessing. So I want to thank everyone in advance for your prayers, encouragement, and participation. I am proud to call you all my brothers and sisters.
Many thanks,
