We are wrapping up our discussion of Abraham this week by looking at the Sacrifice of Isaac through the lens of the Cross. There are few passages in the Old Testament that speak more directly or predictively about the Passion than does Genesis 22. Before reading this narrative again for this week, please read the Passion account in one of the Gospels (Matthew 27, Mark 15, Luke 23, or John 19). As you re-read the Sacrifice of Isaac, try to discover the various foreshadowings of the crucifixion that occur within Genesis 22:1-19 and the parallels between Genesis 22 and the Passion. Also, think about why it is important that this foreshadowing occurs.
I have attached some readings which discuss the foreshadowing in the story of the Sacrifice of Isaac. As before, these additional readings are optional. Dinner is at 6. Fr. Guerry will Celebrate at the end of our discussion this week.
On October 1, we will begin reading through Chesterton’s Orthodoxy. If you would like a book to be ordered for you, please let me know and we can have those ready for you on Tuesday. The cost is $6.00.
“Your father Abraham rejoiced that he was to see my day; he saw it and was glad.”
