Fr. Gabriel will continue leading us through Hebrews this Tuesday beginning with 7:23. In speaking with Fr. Gabriel, we doubt he will be finished with his teaching by Thanksgiving, so we will probably continue with Hebrews through Advent. Please read Hebrews 7-9 for this week. One of the topics we looked at last week is that Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf as a high priest in the order of Melchizedek. If he is a forerunner on our behalf then, as we discussed, so too are we part of this new priestly order. As members of this new order of priests, we do not require the intermediation of another person such as the Aaronic priesthood. Rather, we have direct access to God in Christ directly. We are all priests. For us in the church today, the priesthood is merely a ministry within the body of Christ (Eph. 4:11, 1 Cor. 12:12) and not the means by which we have access to God.
Dinner is at 6. The menu is chili. Discussion about 6:45. Hope to see you here.
Come to him, to that living stone, rejected by men but in God’s sight chosen and precious; and like living stones be yourselves built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. . . . you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people, that you may declare the wonderful deeds of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
