This week we are reading through 1 Corinthians 12. Since Paul did not write in chapters and verses, I would encourage you to read through the second half of chapter 11 as you review chapter 12.
Last week, we discussed what is the “body” that we are to discern in 1 Cor. 11:29 – was it that which Jesus broke at the last supper or is it the undivided church? This verse appears to bring these two meanings together as Paul transitions from a discussion of the Lord’s Supper in chapter 11 to the Church itself in chapter 12. Also, as you read through this chapter notice the different lists of gifts that Paul sets forth and the fact that 1) everyone has a gift, and 2) no one has all the gifts. In looking ahead, next week we are reading 1 Corinthians 13, Paul’s great exposition on love. Therefore, see how Paul’s discussion in chapter 12 sets up his discussion in chapter 13. I have attached a sermon from John Wesley entitled On Schism which ties together these three chapters.
Dinner is at 6. The menu is almond chicken. Please bring a friend. Hope to see you here.
For I know that my Redeemer lives,
Job 19:25-27
and that at the last he will stand upon the earth;
and after my skin has been thus destroyed,
then in my flesh I shall see God,
whom I shall see on my side,
and my eyes shall behold, and not another.
My heart faints within me!
