I am excited to begin our discussion of Liz Curtis Higgs’ book, Bad Girls of the Bible: And What We Can Learn from Them. This is a great introductory small group Bible study. If you have not been part of a small group before, please join us tonight. There is no requirement that you have to read the book to attend. Higgs’ blog post on this reading is HERE.
This week we are looking at Eve and the temptation in the Garden as told to us in Genesis 2-3. As presented by Higgs, the first important part of the story of Eve is her equal dignity. She is not created by God to be subservient to Adam. Nor is she like the animals that were previously brought to him by God. Rather, she is made from him for the purpose of being a suitable partner. She has the same dignity and reflects the same image of God as he does. As we read through the remainder of the book, this will be one of the foundational issues that Higgs will bring out as to each character. All of her discussions begin with the idea that each of these women has her own dignity and own agency.
Dinner is at 6. The menu is Cobb salad. Discussion about 6:45. Hope to see you here. Please bring a friend.
And the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.” . . . And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.
