Abraham – The Covenant

I think that we had a great discussion last week on the figure of Melchizedek. This week we are looking at the Covenant with Abraham and Paul’s use of this Covenant as the foundation for his message. The readings for the discussion this week are Genesis 12:1-3, Genesis 15,  Romans 4:1-5, 13-17, and Galatians 3:6-14, 25-29. Attached is a brief overview of the lesson for this week, and some questions to go along with the readings. If you want some additional background on Ancient New Eastern covenants, please read Jeremiah 34:6-24 and the attached excerpt from Kugel’s How to Read the Bible. p.103-05. All the readings are highly suggested, but not required because it is our gathering together, not the lesson, which is of primary importance. Dinner starts at 6 and the menu is tacos. Hope to see you here on Tuesday.

For in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.  There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.  And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, and heirs according to the promise.

Galatians 3:26-29
