Becoming a Healing Presence: Surrender

Tonight we are reading through Chapter 6 “Surrender” of Dr. Albert S. Rossi’s book Becoming a Healing Presence. In this chapter, Dr. Rossi continues the discussion of how we can grow closer to Christ, and thereby become Christ to others.  This week we will be looking at what it means to surrender to God.  Surrender is not a passive capitulation, rather it is a “receptive engagement with the present.”  Surrender is an activity, not unlike the mutual surrender spouses may have.  We are to surrender ourselves as did Mary with Gabriel (Luke 1:38) or as Jesus in the Garden (Luke 22:42).  For tonight, think through what surrender looks like in your life.

CONGRATULATIONS: Dick and Kathie Foltz have their first grandchild, Charlotte, who was born this Sunday morning.

SCHEDULE: We will finish out Dr. Rossi this month.  We will not meet on June 5 (MBHS graduation).  We will begin our discussion of Galatians on June 12.

Dinner is at 6. The menu is Chicken lettuce wraps. Discussion about 6:45. Hope to see you here.

Unless the Lord builds the house, *
their labor is in vain who build it.
Unless the Lord watches over the city, *
in vain the watchman keeps his vigil.
It is in vain that you rise so early and go to bed so late; *
vain, too, to eat the bread of toil,
for he gives to his beloved sleep.

Psalm 127:1-3
