Passion Predictions in John

For Lent this year, we are going to reflect on the Passion predictions in the Gospel of John. These are the statements of Jesus where Jesus speaks about his death and resurrection. Through the study and meditation on these verses, we hope to gain a deeper understanding of Good Friday through Easter. The passages we will be studying are:

  • John 2:13-22 – The Cleansing of the Temple: “Destroy this Temple and in three days I will raise it up.”
  • John 3:13-21 – Jesus and Nicodemus: “As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up.”
  • John 10:7-18 – The Good Shephard: “For the reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life, that I may take it up again.”
  • John 12:1-8 – Anointing at Bethany: “Leave her alone, let her keep it for the day of my burial.”
  • John 12:20-33 – Teachings in Jerusalem: “Unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.”
  • John 6:41-59 – Bread of Life: “Unless you eat of the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his Blood, you have no life within you.”

Please join us with these reflections during this Lent as we journey to the Cross together.

(Also, for Wednesdays in Lent, beginning with February 24th, the Church of the Messiah will hold Evening Prayer service in the back lot at 5:30. This will be a time of prayer and meditation. I will be giving a short meditation on the Saint whose day we celebrate. Please join us if you are able. The services will be held in the safety of our cars by tuning to the Church’s tiny radio station 92.7 FM.)

This is written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in his name. John 20:31
