Attached are the Penitential Psalms from the 1979 BCP Psalter (6, 32, 38, 51, 102, 130, 143). Please take a few minutes to re-read these Psalms today. As you read them again (hopefully for the 2nd or 3rd time) look at the tone of the prayer being offered:
Imperative – Lord come help me, NOW!;
Hopeful – Lord I know you will come help me;
Hopeless – Lord, if you are out there somewhere, help me;
Joyful – The Lord has helped me, yah!; or
Distraught – Lord come help me, you’re my only hope.
Also, try to be aware of certain idioms and phrases that appear throughout these seven psalms.
